ROADTRIP TO GERMANY

ROADTRIP TO GERMANY

Who doesn´t love road trips?  When I know that there are plans of traveling, I start my research way months in advance. At most 3 months before, I start looking and booking for tickets for the ferry and maybe accommodations along the way.  I don´t like last minute bookings, which sometimes is good, as from time to time, you do get good deals.  But as mentioned, I don´t like it, I want to be secured I knowing that we have the bookings in place.  Normally book places that have cancellations 24 hours before your arrival. So, if there are any changes to the plans, being secured that we don´t waste money for bookings we would not be able to use.  I do, love all of it from planning and executing the trip.

Why a road-trip?  Well, after checking all the other options of going to Germany, our main destination for this year´s holiday. The hubby wanted to drive cause he wanted to re-live his younger days driving with his friends on the Autobahn (Germany´s main highways).  And it’s been 3 years since our last road trip from Norway to Gothenburg, Sweden.  This time we are clever enough to book a return ferry from Tananger to Hirtshals, Denmark.  It will save us time from driving, so we thought wrong cause we ended up being on the road for more than half a day due to traffic on way to Germany.

Hamburg

Why Germany?  A close friend of mine from the Philippines base in Ludwigsburg celebrated her 50th birthday last June at the garden cafe by the (name of the castle) grounds in Ludwigsburg.  And that was the main reason we had to go and we also met the other members of the family coming from Abu Dhabi.  At the same time, wanted to meet up with another Filipina blogger who is also base in Germany, who lives just an hour or so away from Ludwigsburg.  And on our way back to Hamburg, we met the parents of our German friends from Norway.  It was fun filled, relaxing, sunny and productive holiday.

finally reunited with my friend, after so many years.

There were a lot of places to see, restaurants to dine in, markets to check out and museums to visit.  But sadly, we didn´t have time for everything.  The hubby scheduled a test shoot while on holiday, so a few days need to be allotted for scouting locations and the photo shoot itself.  I was able to see some museums but only from the outside.  We definitely need to go back, but we will not be driving in Germany again in the summer.  Too much traffic around, since there are a lot of road constructions happening everywhere.  I think the best choice next time we travel back to Germany is to take the trains instead of driving much easier and faster to get around especially during summer.
