A Day in Amsterdam
In my years living in Stavanger, I have not visited Amsterdam or Holland in general. It was always a layover or a transit via Schiphol Airport was the nearest encounter I had. Finally in mid July of 2019, I was able to have a glimpse of Amsterdam. Yes, a glimpse since I was only there for a night to meet up with friends before we head out to our main destination, Nijmegen. I arrived late afternoon on a Friday in Schiphol Airport, after waiting for my luggage to arrive. I took the train from the airport to Amsterdam Central which only took less than 20 minutes. To my surprise, taking the train was cheaper than getting into a bus. Upon arrival in the central station, I waited for friends to pick me up so we could go walk back together to their rented flat somewhere near Damm Square. It was roughly about 15 minutes walk from the central station.
On my flight back to Stavanger, stayed a night on my own in Amsterdam near Chinatown. I stayed in a hostel and without knowing it, a block from where am staying was the they all the red light district. It was freeing to be on my own at the same time I wish I was traveling and exploring this city with someone.
I would love to be back in this dynamic city so that I can explore more what this place can offer its tourist. A definite place for me travel with friends or love ones. And next time I will be better prepared exploring Amsterdam.
